Kaiya’s Baptism

What a special day!!  It was Kaiya’s day!  She was baptised by her daddy today at 11:15am at the Grants Pass LDS Stake Center with a group of over 30 friends and family there to share in the experience.  She was very excited.  She told me she was scared a little before we left, but when we finally made it to the building she was fine.

Unfortunately it didn’t happen all the way we planned out, but that was ok.  I got up at 6am to make brownies.  We all got dressed and out the door, but had to make a sidetrip for a co-worker of Karl.  We made it to the church building with ten minutes to spare. In the relief society room/font room, the ward mission leader had set out different dresses or jumpers to choose from.  She chose a pretty cool one with snaps at the shoulder.  When everyone was there and Kaiya was changed, Bishop Gary Lathan conducted and we sang a song from the childrens hymnbook “Baptism”. Sister June Sharp led and Sister Micki Hamblin played the piano, both last minute stand ins for the ones that didn’t show at the last minute or had a last minute obligation. Then, Braedon said the opening prayer and Kaiya’s grandpa, Kendall, gave a talk on Baptism.  He was pretty nervous.  After the talk, Karl and Kaiya got their picture taken and we got ready for the ordinance.

There was no hesitation.  The water was warm. She went in and was excited as she gave the group watching a hammy smile.  Karl dunked her with ease and we were off to get her changed into dry clothing.  While we were changing, the group watched the video “Lamb of God” although I really wanted to show this: Our True Identity and was sad that my computer had gone belly up so I couldn’t use it. We couldn’t find it in the library, either.  Total bummer…but, maybe someone in the group needed to see the one we did show.  After the 27 minute video, Kaiya’s surrogate grandpa, Tim Steinberger, gave an impromptu talk on the Holy Ghost.  We are so grateful that he and Grandma Jean made the trip and shared in this special day with us.  When Tim was done, a group of men: Karl, Bishop Lathan, Grandpa Birdsall, Grandpa Tim, Howard Pearson, Bobbie Jo Kirkley, Leif Birdsall, and Noah Jarvie laid their hands on Kaiya’s head while Karl gave her the gift of the Holy Ghost and confirmed her a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  A welcome from the Primary President, Amy Bonilla, brought attention to the roadsigns of life we need to watch out for and how Kaiya can become a good Young woman by following the Faith In God Program in primary.  Then. Bishop Lathan welcomed her as the newest member of the Riverside Ward.  We sang, “I am  a child of God” and then Baylei gave a closing prayer. We finally got to mingle and eat goodies:  homemade brownies, lots of cookies and lemon water.  Was a nice day.  WE missed more family members…but, we felt their spirits there.  We ended our event by going to Taprock with Denise for lunch.  Wish you all could have been there, too!
